Expert Margot Schumacher provides insights into current developments in the home wellness sector.
Features that we used to only ever see in the upscale hotel industry are now also commonplace in our own homes: turning the bathroom into a personal spa. And to create a space that serves not only for personal hygiene but also for physical and mental relaxation. After all, in this day and age, it is hardly surprising that we long for a place of security, deceleration and contemplation.
Bathroom expert Margot Schumacher also confirms this. She is Head of Internal Sales at premium wellness product provider creaSPA and has already supported many customers on their journey to creating a private wellness oasis. "Today more than ever, the bathroom is an important room. You can regenerate here in a place of privacy," says Schumacher and adds: "You don't need a luxury palace to treat yourself to a little time out at home. Even small bathrooms offer potential." The following tips will help you transform your standard bathroom into a wellness oasis.
For a spa atmosphere
If you want to start discreetly, it's best to start with the lighting mood. Light is often crucial to the feeling in a room. "New lamps or light bulbs that are firstly dimmable and secondly adjustable in terms of light temperature increase the coziness factor," says Schumacher. In contrast, bright light with too many blue components has a stimulating rather than calming effect. The offset starry sky with fiber optic light points are a little more elaborate, but perfect for talented DIYers. But even minor renovations can bring about major changes. "Next time you go shopping, opt for natural materials such as wood and stone, for soap dishes, candle plates and similar everyday decorations," recommends Schumacher.
Like showering, only relaxing
In the low to medium price segment, the expert recommends purchasing an adjustable shower head. There are dozens of options in terms of water pressure, spray pattern and positioning to increase the wellness factor in the daily shower – even in small shower cubicles. "If you have more space available, opt for an infrared seat or even an infrared cabin. Their dry heat relaxes and detoxifies the tissue – currently a huge trend in the USA, which we in Switzerland are already years ahead of," says the expert. The practical thing about it is that infrared cabins and seats can be quickly installed and only require the usual 230 V socket for operation.
The feel-good royal class
Bigger, hotter, more pleasant: If you are looking for moist heat, equip your bathroom with either a steam shower or sauna. Both promise top-class relaxation and a number of health and well-being benefits. Important note from the expert: "The electrician has to come for both the sauna and the steam shower, because nothing works here with just the household socket – now you need high-voltage current." The cabins can be perfectly customized thanks to a wide range of design and wood variants. And if you like it really Nordic, combine the pleasure of the heat with a cold plunge pool for an ice-cold cool-down afterwards. The trend towards this combination has only just begun in Switzerland, but is rapidly gaining momentum.
If you want to turn your own bathroom into a wellness oasis, there are many different ways to go about it. But one thing is for sure: The best investment is always in your own health. After all, a bathroom where you feel comfortable and can relax will continue to generate healthy interest and compound interest for years to come.
